We’ve always been inspired by the timeless elegance of ballet and thought we’d put together our own guide to styling a balletcore wedding. It’s easy to go over the top with this theme, so we’ve focused on some more subtle ways to incorporate ballet style into your wedding day. Hints of tulle, fresh makeup, and whimsical decor will sweep you and your guests away in a romantic fantasy. Read on for some unique balletcore wedding inspiration!
Balletcore Wedding Dress
Ballet ensembles usually have a more structured top and full skirt. This is a beautiful combination for a wedding gown because you can keep your posture picture-perfect and introduce some dynamic movement on the bottom half. Vivienne Westwood’s bridal line, famously worn by SJP in Sex and the City, masters this silhouette. The skirts are often built up with layers of tulle for maximum dramatic impact.
Ribbon Shoes
We love a good bow and think that ballet inspired shoes add a delicate touch to the wedding outfit. You can find a lot of wedding heels that tie around the ankle, which also adds some extra support for your ankles. We also think that softer, nontraditional shoe materials, such as tulle or crepe, can add some texture to the overall wedding look.
Blushing Bridal Makeup
Ballerinas usually favor a soft and ethereal makeup style. Think: dewy skin, pink blush high upon the cheeks, a hint of sparkle, and a classic winged eye. No one captures this look better than Elle Fanning. You’ll also usually see her on the red carpet with a loose and romantic hairstyle or a sleek ballerina bun. The key for balletcore wedding makeup is to look like you were just dancing: a little flushed with twinkling eyes.
Elegant Balletcore Wedding Decor
Ballet-inspired wedding details can take many forms. You can use ballet slipper pink as an accent color, walk down the aisle to a classical ballet tune, or use memorable imagery from your favorite ballet. For Chloë Sevigny’s wedding, Lizzi Bougatsos collaborated with Queens-based ice supplier Okamoto Studio to create an ice swan sculpture, which doubled as the raw bar.
Professional Ballerina Entertainment
For a true balletcore wedding, hire professional ballerinas for the reception! We love this as an unexpected form of wedding entertainment and it will really lend a magical air to the evening. Rather than designating a place for them to perform, we think it works best when they dance throughout the venue.
