7 Ways to Practice Wedding Planning self-care

Congratulations on your engagement! As a luxury wedding planner, I understand the excitement and joy that comes with planning your dream wedding. However, amidst the whirlwind of dress fittings, vendor appointments, and endless decision-making, it’s crucial to remember that self-care should be a top priority during this process, too!

Taking care of yourself is not only essential for your well-being, but it’ll also ensure that you shine bright from the inside-out on your special day. So, let’s explore seven ways to practice wedding planning self-care, allowing you to embark on this journey feeling refreshed and ready.

01 – Nutrition & Health

Maintaining a healthy diet and exercise routine is vital during wedding planning. Many brides think they need to go on insane crash diets & cleanses, when in fact they are depriving themselves of nutrients their body needs to combat stress. Nourishing your body with nutritious food will provide you with the energy needed to tackle all the tasks on your wedding to-do list. We advise to not skip meals and to instead prioritize well-balanced meals, including plenty of fruits and vegetables. Many of our couples love to spend a few hours on a Sunday meal prepping for the week ahead. You also want to be sure to stay on top of any important doctor appointments coming up.

02 – Mental Health

Wedding planning can be emotionally overwhelming, with stress, anxiety, and exhaustion creeping in at times. Make sure to take care of your mental health by incorporating activities that bring you joy and help you relax. Whether it’s practicing mindfulness, journaling your thoughts, or taking regular breaks to engage in activities you love, remember to prioritize your mental well-being throughout this journey. We also suggest keeping up with therapy sessions if needed, or giving yourself time away from your computer or phone when needed to decompress. We know – it can be a lot!

03 – Relaxation

Amidst the chaos of wedding planning, finding moments to relax and rejuvenate is crucial to prevent burnout. Schedule top-priority, regular self-care activities such as indulgent bubble baths, soothing massages, quiet walks in nature, or even just lighting a candle. These moments of tranquility will provide you with a chance to recharge and come back to the planning process with a refreshed perspective.

04 – Skincare

Your wedding day is a time to radiate beauty from the inside out, so it’s more important now than ever to prioritize your skincare during the planning process to ensure your skin is glowing and healthy on the big day. Not only does stress cause breakouts on the skin, but it doesn’t help your self-esteem going into such a joyous day. As wedding planners, we recommend doing a consultation with an accredited aesthetician soon after your engagement to establish a skincare routine that’s suitable for your specific skin type.
A few of our favorites local med spas in Houston include Milk & Honey and Skin Pharm. Experts are able to pointpoint your current problem areas while coming up with a targeted treatment plan. Many spas also offer affordable monthly facial memberships. Our brides rave about treatments like microneedling, hydrafacials, and light chemical peels.

05 – Outsource Tasks

Remember, you don’t have to do everything on your own. One of our favorite tips to give our couples–since our team also takes advantage of this when needed– is to outsource! And this certainly doesn’t just pertain to wedding tasks. It could mean alleviating pressure off anything in your life that’s adding stress to your life. Think scheduling grocery deliveries, setting up a meal subscription service for easy and dependable dinners, or hiring someone to help with household cleaning and chores. Outsourcing tasks will give you the breathing space you need to focus on self-care and enjoy the planning process with a much clearer head.

 06 – Hydrate

Staying hydrated may seem like a small detail, but it can make a significant difference in how you feel during the wedding planning journey. Drinking enough water throughout the day will keep you energized, help maintain healthy skin, and improve overall well-being. So, carry that emotional support water bottle with you wherever you go and make hydration a priority. You can even spice it up a little with lemon slices or cucumber for a refreshing twist.

07 – Keep Creative

Amidst the logistical aspects of wedding planning, it’s essential to keep your creative side alive. Engage in activities that spark your creativity and bring you joy. Whether it’s designing your wedding invitations, exploring color palettes, or even creating a vision board, allowing yourself time to tap into your artistic side will keep the planning process exciting and enjoyable.
