Your post-engagement checklist

Congratulations, beautiful bride-to-be! The moment you’ve been eagerly waiting for has finally arrived—the love of your life has proposed, and you’re now engaged! Did we just hear a cork pop? This is an incredible milestone in your journey with your new fiance. We’re here to help you navigate the exciting path that lies ahead.

As lovers of hearing every one of our clients’ proposal stories with giant heart eyes, we understand how wild your emotions must feel right now! We’ve put together a post-engagement checklist to ensure you start this new chapter on the right foot. Embrace every moment and make the necessary preparations for your dream wedding.

Post-Engagement checklist

01 – SHARE THE NEWS

First and foremost, take a moment to bask in the pure joy and excitement of getting engaged! Celebrate with your partner, and then, when you’re ready gather your closest loved ones to share the incredible news; you wouldn’t want the most important people in your life to hear the news from social media!  Whether you choose an intimate gathering or a grand announcement, remember to savor this precious time of sharing your happiness with those closest to you.

02 – ENJOY THE MOMENT

Itching to throw yourself into planning mode with your new fiance? After the initial whirlwind of emotions and congratulations, try to allow yourselves time to revel in the joy of being engaged and simply enjoy the moment. Embrace the blissful feeling of being engaged without rushing into wedding planning just yet. During this time, avoid making any big decisions until you have a clear sense of the kind of wedding you want.

03 – DISCUSS BUDGET, GUEST COUNT, & LOCATION

Before diving into the details, have a heart-to-heart conversation with your partner about your wedding vision. Discuss your budget, guest count, and preferred location. Budget may not be the most exciting part of the planning process but it’s the framework on which all your other decisions will be based. Be sure you both understand what you can and are willing to afford, and who will be contributing. Open and honest communication at this stage will set the foundation for the planning process and help you make informed decisions as you move forward.

04 – WAIT TO SPREAD THE DETAILS

While you may be eager to spread the wedding joy, it’s essential not to start inviting guests or declaring wedding party members until you’ve nailed down your venue. Then, you’ll be able to finalize your guest count and gather the necessary details before sending out any formal invitations. And if people ask about wedding plans, keep it casual with a subtle and vague answer like “We haven’t gotten too much into planning yet!”. This thoughtful approach will help ensure that your wedding day is filled with your nearest and dearest.

05 – GET YOUR RING INSURED

Your engagement ring is a cherished symbol of your love and commitment, so it’s vital to protect it. Simply reach out to your insurance provider to understand your options and add this valuable coverage to your policy. You also want to make sure your ring fits properly. If the ring is too big or too small, don’t wear it until you can take it to a jeweler to get fixed. As difficult as it may be to part from your new ring, sizing only takes a week or so. You want it to fit properly so you don’t lose or damage the ring!

06 – GET ORGANIZED

Wedding planning involves numerous details, timelines, and appointments. To keep everything on track and stress-free, establish an organizational system that works for you. We love suggesting to our clients to invest in a binder. Having a centralized place to store inspiration, vendor contacts, and to-do lists will help you stay organized throughout the process. We’ve even had extra organized couples create a new email address to use for any and all wedding related correspondence. We love that!

07 – DON’T FORGET TO RELAX

Amidst the excitement and busy planning, remember to take breaks and prioritize self-care. Wedding planning can be very overwhelming and easily cause stress. It’s important to remember our mental and emotional well-being is just as important as every other aspect of your wedding planning journey. Taking care of yourself will ensure you approach your wedding day with a radiant glow and a heart full of happiness.
